If you’re planning to study and work in Canada through the CCA (healthcare pathway) or ECE (early childhood education pathway) at Oxford International Career Colleges (Halifax Campus), here’s a clear, practical checklist to help you see if you meet the initial requirements. Tick them off as you go! 📝✨
1) Core Requirements for Both Programs (CCA & ECE)
Whichever track you choose, these baseline qualifications are the same:
Age: 19–53 years old
Education: Completion of high school (Grade 12) or equivalent (GED / International Grade 12)
English Proficiency (test results must be within the last 2 years). Submit ONE of the following:
IELTS Academic 5.5 (no band below 5.5)
IELTS General 6.0 (no band below 6.0)
Duolingo 95 (no subscore below 95)
TOEFL iBT 78 or PBT 550
PTE Academic 55 (no band below 50)

Because this is a healthcare role, safety and health compliance are essential:
2.1 A clear Police Clearance Certificate

3) Additional Documents for the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Pathway
Working with young children requires more detailed screening and references:
3.1 Experience Requirement:
Two reference letters confirming at least 25 hours of experience working with children (paid or volunteer, e.g., childcare support)
3.2 Suitability Confirmation:
Both references must comment on your emotional maturity and suitability for early childhood work 3.3 Background Checks:
Child Abuse Registry Check
Police Clearance Certificate (issued within the last 6 months)
3.4 Pre-screening Interview:
Attendance is required before final selection
3.5 Documents:
Proof of COVID vaccination
Copy of passport
For International Applicants
In addition to the qualifications above, international students must apply for:
A Study Permit
A Co-op Work Permit (for the work component during studies)
Upon arrival in Canada, you will also undergo a Vulnerable Sector Search due to the nature of working with vulnerable populations.
